On the 21st of April in 1926 Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born. She is more commonly known as Elizabeth II of House Windsor, daughter to King George VI she has been the longest reigning monarch in British history as the Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Her reign as monarch began in 1952 and her coronation was in 1953; in 2015, she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, to become the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning queen regnant in world history.
Elizabeth has a large family as many British monarchs have throughout history her heir to the throne is her eldest son Charles who himself is now 67, testament to how long she has been reigning monarch, Anne, Andrew and Edward. Her grandchildren include princes William and Harry who are Charles’ children and the newest direct heir to the throne George and Charlotte.
Queen Elizabeth II who has now turned 90 has lived through many major events in British and world history. She served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War Two, the death of Princess Diana her sons mother and the assassination of her husbands uncle Lord Mountbatten. She has also had many times of personal significance such as her Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 1977, 2002, and 2012.
