On This Day: July 20th

On the 20th of July 2015 the United States of America and Cuba resumed full diplomatic relations five decades after ties were severed between the two nations. A US embassy was created in Havana which had previously been closed in 1961 when Cuba grew closer to the USSR in international relations, a Cuban embassy was also opened in Washington. President Obama oversaw the revival in diplomacy between the two, on March 20th 2016, President Barack Obama visited Cuba, becoming the first President in 80 years to visit the island.
